LJ’s day ends early

Long time Mt Lawn Speedway favorite LJ Lines formerly of Greensboro, who celebrated his 82 birthday on Thursday of this week, had an opportunity to drive in the May 5-0’s this past Saturday but results didn’t meet the expectations of the veteran driver.

Driving the car owned and usually driven by Chase Lane of Knightstown looked in old form in practice by setting third quick time.  In the 50 lap feature LJ started second but was forced to exit the race on lap 2 when he notice something was wrong in the engine compartment.  After examination of the motor it was determined that a broken push rod was the malfunction.  Lane said, “I’m glad LJ was driving the car because I might not have realized there was a problem and done considerable more damage to the engine.”

Even though the race didn’t turn out like he wanted he was glad to get the opportunity to drive again at Mt Lawn.  Although there was short notice that LJ would be in the May 5-0 many fans came to see him race and were not disappointed to see his driving talents on display again at his home track.
